June Ride

July 17, 2010

Meet at the Wendy's in Temple on H K Dodgen loop at 10 a.m. and ride to Elgin for Sausage and BBQ

Independence, Tx

1. Meet at the Jalisco’s in Belton (505 E Central Ave, Belton) at 9am and depart at 10:a.m.

2. We will ride by several bike dealers in Harker Heights we can stop and ogle bikes that will be a good rest stop.

3. then scenic opportunities along the way. Bring your cameras.

4. Aviation Museum in Burnet
(http://www.highlandlakessquadron.com/HLS1/Museum.html ) looks real interesting they have a bunch of planes out front for photo ops.

5. Lunch is at the famous Maxican Restaurant
(http://www.themaxican.com/ ) at their new location

6. There is a rest area in Bertram, we can detour a little to Florence, and there is a park by Stillhouse lake for the return trip. We will end in Belton at Jalisco’s.

7. I am not familiar with the roads so we will not be riding very fast. There is almost no traffic on most of the roads - in fact not including the Belton to Harker Heights leg and in towns, I saw more bikes that cars! I was passed by two separate groups of sport bikes enjoying the twisties. This is a VERY scenic tour of the hill country area. If you like the outdoors and to get away you don’t want to miss this ride. All the roads are paved and in good to excellent condition. There was a short section on the return trip that was newly paved then I guess they made a few mistakes cut up some sections and had not been back to repave. These were easily seen and able to drive around.

I have found with the stops, turns and varying speeds I don’t need as many rest stops to keep butt burn down, unlike the 65mph trips on the freeways. There are quite a few shade trees on the way and picture opportunities that we should be more than fine on rest stops.

Everyone please RSVP this event. We want everyone to attend if possible.
